I've Been Flocked!

You've probably noticed the table in the narthex staffed by the Appalachian Service Project Team. One of the things you can do at the table is to contract for a "flocking". Last night I went outside to look for one of the cats and discovered flamingos in the yard. Not only that, there was a car parked on the street with two "flockers" hiding behind it. This morning the evidence of the "flocking attack" is quite manifest throughout the yard. Thanks to the ASP team and their sponsors for this delightful "birthday" surprise. --- Lavon Page   Click any photo to view large versions of all photos

Property Purchase completed - It's Ours!

The Community Church Low-Income Housing Corporation became a meaningful reality today as the closing on the purchase of the Lloyd property took place around 2 PM at Hodge and Kittrell Realty in north Raleigh. Everette Noland represented CUCC presenting the details of the contract, and Treasurer Carol Kepler signed for the purchase on behalf of the church. Assistant Treasurer Carol Clark was also present. Anne Bailey Zschau served as the church's real estate agent. Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd, the sellers, were present and engaged in a long conversation with us. The had owned the property for about 30 years. Mr. Lloyd served on a Liberty ship during the early stages of World War II. And indeed his brother perished on a Liberty ship when the convoy of 30 ships was attacked by German U-Boats on its way to Murmansk, Russia. Only 11 of the boats returned. Mr. Lloyd is a delightful gentleman who had a long career employed by the Raleigh fire department. And he is very proud to have rented the ho

Community Church Low-Income Housing Corporation

At the congregational meeting on May 4, Frank Gailor (on behalf of the Ad Hoc Property Committee) announced that a non-profit corporation is being formed to oversee the property adjacent to the church (closing scheduled for May 9 at 2 PM). The name of the new non-profit is Community Church Low-Income Housing Corporation . The initial Board of Directors for the non-profit will be appointed by Church Council, but the intent is to roll over the selection of these board members into the annual congregational elections for ministries and committees. If you would like to volunteer or nominate someone to serve on the initial board, please contact Lavon Page, moderator. Suggestions are appreciated.
