Commissioning Those Going to BYC - Introduction of Campers: Maya, Breiy, Sophie, Zenna, Jocelyn, Hannah, Xavier, Sylas, Jake, Mason, Bill, Susan   Sending Prayer: Gracious God, we pray that in their camp experience, these youth and adults will create a community of inclusion, hospitality, and hope for all participants to grow in their identity as your beloved people. Knitting Our Country Together

This summer, why not do something to knit our country together? Here are some ideas. *Going to a neighborhood picnic or parade?  Bring a stack of voter registration forms with a sign that says, "No matter how you vote, I am glad you are my neighbor."  Print forms at  http://msweb03.co.wake.nc.us/bordelec/downloads/9forms/9formslist/NCVoterRegForm.pdf . *Did you know that only 65% of CUCC's members voted in the last off-year election?  TODAY put your election dates on your calendar and promise yourself you will vote.  Know you need to research candidates?  Put a date on your calendar to do that, too. October 8   Municipal Elections for Raleigh, Cary, Durham November 5   Municipal Elections for Angier, Apex, Durham, Fuquay-Varina, Garner, Holly Springs, Knightdale, Morrisville, Rolesville, Wake Forest, Wendell, and Zebulon; Municipal Runoff Elections for Raleigh and Cary (if necessary) *Invite a new neighbor to your home for a meal.  Yes, a last minute invitation

Remembering a member of our first international mission trip

We received a Facebook Message from CUCC member Helen Brown's great nephew, Martin Anderson.  I asked his permission to share our conversation with you. Martin Anderson  "Hi, I visited your church grounds this afternoon while on a rare, brief visit to Raleigh. My great aunt Helen Brown made a bequest when she died in 2005 that helped your sustainability/climate change campaign. Excited to see your solar panels! And your wonderful message of peace and inclusivity." Jane for CUCC  "Hi, Martin.  Thank you for getting in touch.  Your great aunt was a marvel and is dearly remembered at CUCC by those privileged to know her.  Her gift continues to inspire us to action. Our latest project is to contract with an industrial scale composter so that we can compost leftovers, plates, cups and even pizza boxes from church events.  Some families bring their compostables from home, too.  So far we have found that the composting keeps as many carbon equivalents out of the atmosph

Life & Faith July 2: All about Time

Our July topic:  If you have enough to eat and a safe place to sleep (and maybe even if you don't), you may not have enough time.  The intersection of life & faith gets bumpy when we throw in the dimension of time.  What is your first memory of time?  How has what you think and feel about time changed throughout your life?  Have you ever lived in another kind of time and, if so, how did your spirit respond?  How does what you think and feel about time influence your freedom to love as God loves, to serve as Jesus serves? What does the phrase "in God's time" mean to you? Anyone is welcome at Life & Faith, an informal, whoever-shows-up gathering of people interested in comparing notes with others on how their life and their faith is intersecting.  Come on your own or bring a friend! See you at Wilson's Eatery , 1053 E. Whitaker Mill Road.  If you are eating, come at 6:30pm to order your food (we each pay for our own food & beverage).  Conversation

Second Eagle Scout project completed

On June 22, an energetic and motivated group of Boy Scouts, Scout leaders and parents assembled at CUCC to tackle an ambitious project. Before and after Eighteen years ago, Eagle Scout candidate Matt Moorman, Anne Moorman-Smith‘s son, installed a split rail fence along the southern property line. After almost two decades of service, the fence needed replaced. Eagle Scout candidate Sam Sorice and his team removed the old fence, took down a dead dogwood tree, dug up armfuls of brush, poison ivy and weeds, and installed a new fence. Please check it out the next time you’re at church. It certainly makes that side of our property attractive and welcoming! - submitted by Merrilee Jacobson, Property Ministry

Śānti update - June 24

Śānti's doctor appointment brought the good news that her retinas are attaching!   Śānti and Matt sound lighter than air in their joy and relief.  We thank God for taking care of our beloved youth and adult education coordinator. What’s next?  One more week of 22 hours/day on her right side.  She will be re-evaluated by the doctor next Monday, July 1, at 9:15 AM.  After that the doctor will evaluate what activities she can add little by little and when she can resume some work responsibilities. Keep those prayers and cards coming. Śānti has many weeks of healing to go. If you - when Śānti is ready - would like to visit in person or by phone, bring a small meal, drive her to appointments, or offer other services, please let Jane Smith know.  Jane is keeping the list of offers of care for when they are ready for help.  smithjeg@mindspring.com Santi is still on sick leave.  If you have questions related to Śānti's work, contact moderator Ellen Beidler. ebeidler@usa.net

STRENGTHEN THE CHURCH OFFERING

STRENGTHEN THE CHURCH OFFERING Community United Church of Christ will collect the Strengthen the Church offering today, June 23. An offering envelope is enclosed in your bulletin. Please prayerfully consider giving to this mission of the UCC. What is  Strengthen the Church? Each day, visions and dreams are created in the hearts of many in the United Church of Christ. Through the  Strengthen the Church  special mission offering, they can become a reality.  As God calls our congregations to be "church" in new ways, your gift will plant new churches, awaken new ideas in existing churches, and develop spiritual life in our youth and young adults. Because of this offering, many more will hear the good news that "God is still speaking."  Strengthen the Church  is directed to your church's Conference, Local Church Ministries and The Stillspeaking Ministry for these purposes.  How many dollars are given to  Strengthen the Church? In 2012, contributions topped $
