Upcoming August Youth Activities
Sunday, August 17: Wright Center Meal.  Youth will prepare the meal in the CUCC kitchen from 10:30am – Noon.  The Youth will serve the meal at the Wright Center from 6:00pm – 8:00pm.

Saturday, August 23: Love Our Animals! (Please come whether you have a dog or not!) Bring your dog/s, if you have one and want to, (or bring a photo of a pet or animal you especially like), to the entrance of Lake Johnson (4601 Avent Ferry Road, Raleigh 27606). We'll meet at 10:30am and all go for a nice long walk around the unpaved side of the lake and play with and appreciate our four legged friends. RSVP to Śānti Matthews by Friday, August 22.

Also, please consider bringing donations for Saving Grace (a local animal shelter).

Saving Grace is always in need of the following:
Monetary donations - medical expenses are by far their greatest expense
Gas cards (they drive many miles each week to rescue dogs and take dogs to vets)
High quality dog food (the shelter dogs consume 1,500 lbs. of dog food a month)
Large, heavy duty trash bags
Stamps
Copy paper (letter size)
Paper towels
Dog crates (both plastic and wire)
High Efficiency ("HE") type liquid laundry detergent
Used towels and blankets

Sunday, August 24: Make cards and/or a children’s book for the Wake Med Children’s Hospital or if our house work was canceled due to rain, we'll work on the house at 802 Dixie Trail.

Sunday, August 31: No Church School - Labor Day Weekend (the next week, September 7, is a first Sunday of the month, but we will all participate in Welcoming Sunday worship, fun, and potluck lunch!)

Pray at the Legislature
Every Tuesday, from 12:30pm to 1:00pm, Duane Beck from the Mennonite Church meets with some of us. Go in the front door off of Jones Street. Turn left and meet at a table in the garden area.  Scriptures will be provided if requested. (SJM)

Wednesday Evening Bible Study
Bring a brown bag supper and join us as we study and discuss the Bible (at times, the lectionary passages, at other times a particular book of the bible).  All are welcome to "just show up" and need not come to every session. There is no need to read anything in advance. People drop in and out as life dictates and the membership keeps changing.  Wednesday, August 20, 6:30pm, Pilgrim House.

PFLAG
Please join us Wednesday, August 20, at 7:30pm for our monthly support meeting.  All meetings are confidential and all are welcome! PFLAG is the United States' largest organization for parents, families, friends, and straight allies united with people who are lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT).
The mission of PFLAG Triangle is to:
Support Families and Friends – by working to foster loving relationships, by helping them understand and affirm their gay, lesbian, bisexual or transgendered loved ones; Educate Ourselves and the Public – by working with educators, faith groups, businesses, media, and the larger community;
Advocate for Equality – by calling for equal human and civil rights.  We strive to create a world where our loved ones are judged on the content of their character, not by their sexual orientation or gender identity. (ONA)

Save the Date – Welcoming Sunday is Sunday, September 7
Welcoming Sunday is our Homecoming.  Join us as we welcome everyone back from the summer with a variety of activities: games, crafts, music, social justice activities - and food!  We will meet in the sanctuary at 10:30am and then gather in the main church yard where the festivities begin.  Please bring a pot luck dish to share. Invite family, friends and neighbors to visit with us. All are welcome!  See you on September 7!

“Welcoming Tonto” – Tuesday, August 26, 7:00pm
“Welcoming Tonto:  Inviting and Accepting Support in Acting on Your Mission.”  Process led by Worthy Durgan and Roger Manus.  Sponsored by the Triangle Men’s Council with support from the ManKind Project.  Men of all ages invited.  Tuesday, August 26, 7:00pm – 9:00pm, Hoffmann Room.

No Sunday School or Youth Church School on Sunday, August 31
We will not have Sunday School or Youth Church School on Sunday, August 31, due to the Labor Day Holiday.  Children and Youth will remain with their families in the church service.
