CUCC is marching together at HKonJ

HKonJ is Saturday, February 9

HKonJ (Historic Thousands on Jones Street),  is an annual highlight of the People’s Assembly Coalition: Moral March. The 13th Annual HKonJ march will take place on Saturday, February 9.  Community United Church of Christ is one of hundreds of organizations that support and participate in the march. We expect tens of thousands of like-minded people to attend, and it is a glorious sight!

Those who wish to march to the rally will gather at 9:30AM at the McDonald's’ sign at 105 E. South St. near Shaw University. Look for the CUCC banner!  CUCC Youth and Santi will be there to greet you. Call Santi’s cell if you need to communicate with the march group that morning (919-961-8814). Give yourself plenty of time to navigate through traffic and find a parking place. The march begins at 10.

For those who want to go to the rally only, a group will be leaving from CUCC at 9:45AM.  We will park behind the (white) First Baptist Church at Hillsborough and Salisbury Streets near the old capitol building, and will walk a short distance to the rally location. There will be chairs in front of the stage for those who cannot stand a couple of hours. Seating is limited so feel free to bring your own chair. Let Joan McAllister know if you want to be with this rally only group (919-612-5523).

Be acutely aware of the weather, including the wind. The downtown area can get very cold, especially when the winds are whipping up the streets. The energy of the crowd will help to keep us warm.

You may want to know why perfectly sane people would go to a rally like this in February. We can tell you that it is a life-giving, community-building, faith-strengthening, inspirational experience.  Dr. Barber will be there along with many others speaking on the importance of our continued resolve to bring concerns to our legislators and to the wider community. We are people of every color, every gender, every economic class, every belief, every sexual orientation, every age…. We are the beloved community!
