Ash Wednesday, March 6

Drive By Ashes 12:00-1:00 p.m., Dixie Trail parking area
Pastor Jenny will offer ashes-on-the-go to those whose schedules do not allow for their participation in our evening Ash Wednesday service. 

Ash Wednesday Dinner & Worship at CUCC: Dinner 6 p.m.(provided by Deacons) Worship 7 p.m.
We will host St. Paul’s Christian Church as we begin the season of Lent by gathering for supper and a service of remembrance, receiving the ashes as a reminder that in living and dying, we belong to God.

Palm Sunday Worship, April 14, 10:30 a.m.
Just as Jesus’ early followers lined the streets welcoming Jesus to Jerusalem, singing “Hosanna!”, we are invited to make a way for Jesus in our hearts, in our community, and in our worship together. We will process into the sanctuary, beginning at the Wade Ave. parking lot with palms and ukuleles in hand!

Geraldine Bryan and Jenny Shultz-Thomas invite all to receive healing prayer.
Tai Chi: Tuesday, April 16, 9:30 a.m. Fellowship Hall, reduce stress, improve balance and flexibility.

Silent Retreat: Wednesday, April 17, 10 a.m.– 2 p.m., location info to follow. This contemplative retreat will allow for personal introspection and reflection. What is Spirit cultivating in you? Maundy Thursday Soup and Worship at St. Paul’s: April 18, Dinner at 6 p.m., Worship at 7 p.m.
St. Paul’s Christian Church hosts us as we explore the meaning of the last supper and the power of breaking bread together in community.

Good Friday: April 19, Sanctuary Open for Prayer, 12-1 p.m.
Join in the journey towards Easter by participating in a self-directed meditation on the passion narrative, reflecting on the story of Jesus’ journey from the Garden of Gethsemane to the hill of Calvary.

Good Friday Prayer Circle: April 19, 1:00 p.m., Sanctuary
This is a simple prayer gathering for all who may wish to hold one another in the light.

Holy Saturday Spiritual Walk: April 20, 9:30-11:30 a.m., location info to follow. Experience shinrin-yoku, or "forest bathing," the healing practice of spending time with trees in order to gain from their many health benefits. Mary Pat Peters, UCC friend and Spiritual Landscape Designer, will guide us.

EASTER SUNDAY
Easter Sunrise Service, April 21, 7:30 a.m., Courtyard. Join us for a simple service of celebration.
Easter Breakfast, April 21, 8:00 a.m., Fellowship Hall. Early risers are invited to remain following the sunrise service to enjoy a light breakfast.
Easter Sunday Service, April 21, 10:30 a.m., Sanctuary. We will gather as one body, with one voice, as we celebrate with one HOPE, the power of resurrection life made possible through the life and love of Christ. (Bring a flower for our Easter resurrection cross.)

LENTEN STUDIES, SERVICE PROJECTS, AND RETREATS

CHURCH-WIDE EVENTS

Community Brunch: Sunday, March 10, 11:45 a.m. As we continue our journey together to Mexico, the Oaxaca Team will provide a meal of locally sourced food, and we will learn from a local expert about sustainable agriculture. A $10 trip contribution per person is requested, bring your “passport.”

Compost and Reuse Action Event: Sunday, March 17, 12:15-1:15 p.m. Justice in a Changing Climate will provide this all ages, fast-paced, how-to, compost and reuse exploration. Nursery provided.
  
Origami Lesson and Workshop: Sunday, March 24, 4-6 p.m. Hoffmann Room. Join the CUCC Youth Group and enjoy the peaceful and meditative art of origami paper folding.

Hymn Sing: Sunday, March 31, 12-1 p.m. Location to be determined. Join the Chancel Choir in cultivating joy by sharing song and friendship with a nearby retirement community.

Church Workday: Saturday, April 13, 8 a.m. –12 p.m. Property Ministry invites everyone to come for any part of the morning to help cultivate beautiful grounds and care for our church home.

Inter-Faith Food Shuttle Service Project: Saturday, April 16, 8:30-10:30 a.m. Cultivate care by bagging produce and delivering to Raleigh seniors. Contact education.cucc@gmail.com for more info.

ADULTS

Animate:Bible: Sundays from March 3-April 14, 9:15-10:15 a.m., Hoffmann Room
Explore, reinvigorate, or deepen your understanding of the Bible with brief engaging videos, small group discussions, and journaling. Facilitated by Julie Robertson and Sue Cottle.

Everything Happens for a Reason and Other Lies I’ve Loved: Sundays March 10-April 14, 4:30-6 p.m., Hoffmann Room. Using Kate Bowler’s book and podcast series, we will explore our Lenten concept of letting go. Books can be purchased in the Fellowship Hall starting February 24. Facilitated by Suzette Roach and Ellen Beidler.

Podcasts with the Pastor: Thursdays, March 7-April 11, 1 p.m. Hoffmann Room. Join Pastor Jenny in listening and responding to a unique podcast that will allow us to consider what Spirit is cultivating in us, and what might we need to let go of in order to give space to this new budding life.

Special Visit from David Bland: Sunday, March 31, 9:15-10:15 a.m. Economic Justice Task Force brings us this wise and passionate community leader with experience in reforming bail bond systems. Join us as we learn how we can cultivate justice by helping to advocate for bail bond reform in N.C. 

Life & Faith: Tuesday, April 2, 6:30 p.m. Raleigh pub/restaurant to be determined. Join this informal gathering exploring how each of us is making connections between our life and faith. 

YOUTH
The youth journey through Lent includes: experiential Sunday School classes rooted in the lectionary, hosting the Community Brunch on March 10, sharing a service project at IFFS (March 16,11:30 a.m.), folding origami cranes for use in worship (March 24, 4-6 p.m.), and walking the Witness for Peace stations of the cross (Good Friday, April 19, noon). The Youth Choir will also sing in worship on April 7.

CHILDREN
The children will be following the lectionary in Sunday School and planting bulbs for use in worship. On Palm Sunday, April 14, the Children’s Choir will sing in worship and, after worship, they will enjoy their annual Easter Egg Hunt.
