Meet Edith Sylla in the Dixie Trail parking lot at 9am to carpool to this year's HKonJ rally. The rally begins at 9:30am at Shaw University and participants will walk through downtown to the legislature for rousing speeches.  If you prefer not to walk, meet Cy King at the legislative building. You'll find him with a chair at the front of the legislative building before noon.    The annual HKonJ (Historic Thousands on Jones Street) rally draws together North Carolinians from all walks of life to bring attention to the needs of our citizens. An amazing coalition of advocates works together to set annual priorities and then to convince our state legislators to vote for justice and fairness for our people. We are honored to have the Rev. Curtis Gatewood as our Forum speaker and as guest preacher this Sunday.  Rev. Gatewood is currently the coordinator of HKonJ (Historic Thousands on Jones Street), a coalition of groups (including CUCC) supporting a better life for all North Carolinians.  Hear Rev. Chili Loaves and Fishes Ministry , a non-profit organization, will be selling “The World’s Best” meat and veggie chili at $10.00 per quart in freezer containers. Sisters in Spirit, a gathering for women, will meet on the 5th Tuesday, January 31 st , at 7 PM in the Hoffmann room for a potluck and discussion of travel. Several of us have been on outings this past year (Kathy C. to Singapore, Vandy to Shanghai, Kathy W. to  travelogues on TV). We'll be sharing some of our experiences and how travel to new places benefits our lives. Come "travel" to and with SIS... and expand our horizons.

The Retirees will meet on Monday, January 9, at 10:30am in the Vaughan fellowship hall for a program given by Pastor Steve about his experiences while on vacation in Kauai in October. He will be showing "fantastic" slides of Hawaiian landmarks and do a travelogue on the beautiful places that he and Marcy visited. He will also tell about our sister congregation, Church of the Pacific- UCC, where they stayed. Come one and all, bring a bag lunch. Dessert and drinks will be provided.
