Save the Date - Summer Daze, May 19

Summer*Daze is our second annual lawn frolic.  Relax, play, eat and enjoy your Community UCC friends!  Great bluegrass music (bring a chair or blanket for the lawn), BBQ (bring a side dish or dessert).  Beverages provided, including tea, soda, beer and wine.  Games for the kids (and the young-at heart).  Fun for all! See you on the lawn at CUCC!

Eric Dyke to Perform During 10:30 Worship Service on May 20th

Eric Dyke to Perform on Sunday, May 20th Eric Dyke will be playing the double bass for our worship on Sunday, May 20 th .  Eric has been a member of the NC Symphony for many years and has contributed his musical talent to our worship services in the past.  It will be good to see and hear him again.

Graduation Celebration: Sunday, May 20

We will celebrate our 2018 Graduates during the 10:30am worship service on May 20. Please join us on Sunday, May 20, as we welcome our new confirmands into our CUCC family.  It will be a moving and memorable experience.  They've worked very hard for this Sunday.  We are honored and excited to be a part of their spiritual growth.

Sarah Junkin Woodard will update us on the CDCA and help us  to know of the ongoing work they are doing in Nicaragua. For more than two decades, the CDCA  continues to adapt, seeking to respond to human needs created by poverty in the third poorest  nation in the western hemisphere. The CDCA focuses on justice now, working towards freedom  from poverty, helping communities become self-sufficient, sustainable, democratic entities, using integrated appropriate technology in all projects, specifically in the areas of: sustainable economic development, organic agriculture, education, and health care. Auction/Yard Sale Results

Auction/Yard Sale Results Many thanks to all participants and supporters of our Annual Auction and First Annual Yard Sale! Both events brought enjoyment to and engagement from all quarters of our church community  and  garnered needed funds for our annual budget (auction) and upcoming mission trips (yard sale).  While money is still rolling in, the current count is auction - $8,400, yard sale - $1,650.  We hope to make the yard sale an annual event, so please consider saving items for 2019!                                                               - Your Stewardship, Property and Welcome & Fellowship committees

BYC Summer Camp Registration Extended to June 3!

Attention Parents and Youth: BYC Summer Camp Registration has begun! Camp Dates this year are Sunday, July 1 - Friday, July 6. Final payment due by Sunday, June 10. SCHOLARSHIPS ARE AVAILABLE! We will have a newcomer orientation and meeting on June 10, right after worship.   DON'T MISS THIS AMAZING SPIRITUAL SUMMER CAMP EXPERIENCE! BYC is a phenomenal church camp experience in the NC mountains with like-minded churches from all over the country. Śānti has participated in curriculum planning and leadership at this camp for 14 years, and CUCC youth have attended for the past 8 years.  The camp is open to our current 6th graders (this summer's rising 7th graders) through this years' high school graduates. The cost this year is $360 per camper. (this fee covers all camp meals and lodging, and travel there and back and is well worth it...

From the Pastor Heard Mentality By Rev. Molly Baskette, May 10, 2018 (reprinted from ucc.org) "He who has ears, let him hear." - Matt. 11, Matt. 13:9, Matt. 13:43, Luke 4, Luke 8, Luke 14 "Whoever has ears, let them hear what the Spirit is saying to the Church." - Revelation 2:29 Jesus, no fewer than six times in the gospels, utters his now-famous dictum, "He who has ears, let him hear." Here is Jesus as the grizzled old man he never got to be, with a distinct rural accent of unknown provenance. "Don't you have the sense God gave you? You got wax in them ears?" These are words you say to people who aren't listening. Or to people who seem to be listening, but on whom one's words seem to be having no effect, because they keep ignoring your extremely sound advice.
