NC Pride Festival and Parade
Saturday, September 28.  Come out and show your support for your LGBT family and friends.  CUCC will have an outreach table and will march in the parade.  If you have never been to Pride, you have missed out on a wonderfully affirming event.  We need volunteers to help set up and be at our table; and we would love to have as many of you as are able to march with us.  The event is located on the Duke East Campus.  Set up begins at 8:00am.  Festival grounds open at 10:00am and the Parade begins at 1:00pm.  Contact Cathy Marshall (919-787-6422) or Maegan Mohr (Maegan_mohr@yahoo.com) for more information.

New to CUCC? Newcomers' Supper Sept. 30
You are invited to join us for supper on Monday evening, September 30.  Around the table will be some people new to CUCC and some who have long been part of the congregation.  Bring your questions about the church and its congregation.  Arrive after 6:00pm for appetizers; we'll sit down to supper at 6:30.  RSVP to the church office (919-787-6422).  Let us know if you have any dietary restrictions or if we can arrange childcare for your young children.  We look forward to getting to know you.

Youth News for this Weekend
Tomorrow, September 28,  the Youth will participate in NC Pride at the Durham East Campus.  Please contact Śānti Matthews if you have any questions.  Youth will offer the Walk for Hope Children's Message on Sunday, September 29 and collected contributions for the walk after worship.  This Sunday is also a fifth Sunday where we welcomed 5th graders for after church activities.

The Economic Justice Task Force
The EJTF will meet Tuesday, October 1, at 1:00 in the Bradow Room.  Everyone is welcome to join us.

Taizé Worship
As your week kicks into high gear, still your mind and wait in the presence of God.  The silence is punctuated by reading of scripture and chanting meditative songs.  No sermon, no offering, no announcements.  Friends are welcome. Tuesday, October 1, 7:00pm, Vaughan Fellowship Hall.  Taizé Worship is also offered each Sunday morning at 9:00am in the sanctuary.

Wednesday Evening Bible Study
After eating a brown bag supper, the group studies the Bible (at times they have studied the lectionary passages, at other times they have worked their way through a particular book). The group talks about the Bible passages and things that come up in relation to these. All are welcome to "just show up" and need not come to every session. There is no need to read anything in advance. People drop in and out as life dictates and the membership keeps changing.  We meet at 6:30pm in the Pilgrim House on the 1st and 3rd Wednesdays of the month.  Next Bible Study is Wednesday, October 2.

An Evening of Blue Grass
The Wake Federation of the Blind invites you to enjoy an evening of Blue Grass Music with musical artists India Cain and Allen Keith.  The event will be held on Saturday, October 12 at 7:00pm at Community United Church of Christ.  Tickets are $10.00 each and will aid blind and visually impaired people to become more independent citizens in society.  For more information contact Robert Parrish at 919-616-1606.  Come and help us change what it means to be blind.

Date Change for “Life & Faith”
Are you always busy on second Tuesdays and wish you could be part of the monthly gatherings for discussion of how life and faith are intersecting in our lives? October 15 (a 3rd Tuesday) is your opportunity to check out the Life & Faith in Downtown Raleigh discussions.  We’re avoiding Election Day.  Mark your calendar now.

Crop Walk
CUCC will participate in this year's CROP WALK...and we want YOU!  This year's CROP Walk will be held Sunday, October 27, 3:00pm, in downtown Raleigh.  This is a fun, family-friendly event that raises money for food organizations in our community.  We would love to have a big CUCC presence this year!  If you would like to join the team (and we hope that you will!) and/or sponsor a walker from our church, please email Laurel Powell (laurel.powell@gmail.com).  We hope to see you there!

Coalition for Peace with Justice
Dana Golan, veteran of the Israeli Defense Forces, past executive director of “Breaking the Silence,” relates testimonies that question Israeli military operations aimed at controlling the Palestinians in the occupied territories.  “Breaking The Silence” is an Israeli Non-Governmental Organization (NGO), located in a western section of Jerusalem, established by Israel Defense Forces (IDF) soldiers and veterans who collect and provide testimonies about their military service in the West Bank, Gaza Strip, and East Jerusalem since the Second Intifada, giving serving and discharged Israeli personnel and reservists a platform to confidentially describe their experience in the Israeli-occupied territories. It has been described, in an American Jewish newspaper, as a "left-wing soldiers' protest organization".[1]

The organization's stated mission is to 'break the silence' of IDF soldiers who return to civilian life in Israel and "discover the gap between the reality which they encountered in the [occupied] territories, and the silence which they encounter at home." Since 2004, “Breaking the Silence” has run a testimonies collection project called "Soldiers Speak Out" They have collected several hundred testimonies from "those who have, during their service in the IDF, the Border Guard, and the Security Forces, played a role in the Occupied Territories." By publishing soldiers' accounts, Breaking the Silence hopes to "force Israeli society to address the reality which it created" and face the truth about "abuse towards Palestinians, looting, and destruction of property" that is familiar to soldiers.  Hear Dana Golan tell her story and share insights from hundreds of testimonials collected by her organization:
