Adult Forum - Sunday, November 24, 9:15am, VFH
On Sunday, November 24, the Sunday Forum will conclude its month long series on Issues in the Environment. Thus far, we have had speakers who dealt with fracking, the national parks, and the significance of birds in nature. This coming Sunday our speaker will be Liz Kazal from Environment North Carolina, a non-profit organization that advocates for nature. Ms. Kazal will address the issue of Global Warming which is a subject of great concern to most of the parishioners of CUCC. Please give serious consideration to attending.
Stewardship Ministry
We have received pledges to cover a little over one-half of our proposed budget for 2014. If you have not yet pledged, please bring your 2014 pledge card with you to church Sunday, or mail it to the office in the envelope provided. Pledge cards are available on the table at the back of the sanctuary if you should need one.
Ecumenical Thanksgiving Service
The Ecumenical Thanksgiving Service for Community United Church of Christ, Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, Fairmont United Methodist Church, Pullen Memorial Baptist Church and West Raleigh Presbyterian Church will be held Sunday, November 24, 7:00pm, at Fairmont United Methodist Church, 2501 Clark Ave Raleigh, NC 27607. A reception with light refreshments will follow the service to provide a time for fellowship with our various congregations. If you have family members visiting, please bring them with you. Non-perishable food items will be collected for the needy families in the community.
Thanksgiving with CUCC Friends
We would like to start up an old CUCC tradition we haven't done in a while and have a Thanksgiving Day meal at church. For those who can't spend time with family, why not come together and enjoy the season with others in the church? We will meet in the Fellowship Hall at 1:30pm and begin eating at 2:00pm. Potluck – with the Lambs providing the turkey. If you wish to participate, please contact the church office at 919-787-6422 or cucc@nc.rr.com.
Usher in the Season of Advent - December 1st
Bring back the excitement of waiting for Christmas! Everybody is welcome to come to the Vaughan Fellowship Hall at 5:00 pm, December 1st, to celebrate the first day of the church year (yes, really), the first day of the last month, and the first day of Advent. This will be a group participation worship service for everyone (parents of those under 6 may opt for child care, available on request). We will begin with a brief introduction to the "When, What and Why of Advent" (including scriptures), then hear Geri Bowen sing "Todo la Tierra." Doug Barrick will be enhancing our time together at various times. We'll hear stories of Advent from hither and yon, near and far, and will sing Advent songs. Cookies and cider will be available as we assemble a new Advent candle wreath for the sanctuary. This will be brought into the sanctuary by Pastor Steve as we sing and light candles in celebration. Parents may pick up children in child care on the way to the sanctuary. We expect to conclude by 6:30. (Sponsored by the Deacons)
SPCA Christmas Project
The children's Sunday School classes are supporting the animals at the SPCA this Christmas. We are collecting food, treats, collars, leashes, kitty litter, and monetary contributions to add to our Sunday School offering. We will have a box in the Fellowship Hall and one in the narthex through December 15th if anyone would like to donate. Please notice the posters the children have placed down the hallway and on our bulletin board. They are very excited about this project and hope that you are too. We all continue to be amazed by their love of giving and doing for others, including God's animals.
Christmas Cards for Wounded Soldiers
The children's Sunday School classes are sending Christmas cards to our wounded soldiers at Walter Reed Hospital. If you would like to send one you may drop it off in our classroom and we will be sure it gets in the mail.
Meals on Wheels Wish List for Christmas
In December, the Retirees' group will again be sponsoring an ingathering of gifts for Meals on Wheels Clients. The list of requests follows…

be used by the Retirees to purchase gift cards, which are especially
appreciated.

Postage Stamps Holiday Gift Sets appropriate for older folks
Boxes will be placed around the church beginning November 17 to collect your donations. The Retirees will be wrapping your gifts on Monday, December 9, from 10:00am – 12 Noon. Menu of Compassionate Gifts
Is there someone you plan to give a gift to that doesn't really need yet another gift – a family member, neighbor, friend or coworker? How about choosing from our Menu of Compassionate Gifts? Six local charitable organizations have been selected and our menu tells you what your donation might do. One example is: $25 provides 3 nights of shelter, meals and support services for a woman at the Helen Wright Center. The menu and order form are located on the table in the back of the sanctuary and also online. You will receive cards to give to the recipients of your gifts. So give it some thought; then give gifts that give twice.
CUCC Christmas Dinner
Christmas will be here soon and the annual CUCC Christmas dinner is just around the corner. Plans are now being made for this celebration which will include a social hour, a catered meal from Mitch’s Tavern, and holiday entertainment.
