Getting there:
Finding the Group at the start of the March
Look for the big CUCC banner after 9:10AM. We hope to stand near United Church-Chapel Hill which has an even bigger UCC banner OR call Jane Smith
For more on HKonJ see the fuller description at http://www.communityucc.org/2014/01/hkonj.html
Map for HKonJ (Ways to get into town and parking)
In light of road closures for both the Krispy Kreme Challenge and HKonJ, Jane Smith has designed a map to help us travel from the north or the west into downtown with arrows to show how to access parking decks. Given our one way streets, the situation is yet more complicated.
Jane also double checked CAT bus routes. The number 4 bus from CUCC should be fine; re-routing actually brings us closer to Shaw! She may be a bit later than 9:10 with our banner, depending on delays due to re-routing.
After HKonJ, Lunch is an ASP fundraiser
Consider grabbing your lunch at the Jersey Mike's, located at 2712 Hillsborough Street, after HKonJ. Between 11:30am and 2:30pm, Jersey Mike's will give 15% of their proceeds to CUCC's Appalachia Service Project team. Remember to say you came to support CUCC's ASP team!
This Sunday is a very special day at Community United Church of Christ!
At Worship following Forum, we will be presenting the Carolyn & Cy King Peace and Justice Awards. So, at Forum, in conjunction with honoring the recipients and the lives and work of Carolyn and Cy King, we have asked Cy King to share his thoughts and lead a discussion about "The Pursuit of Peace and Justice."
This year's most deserving recipients of the King Awards are Slater Newman, Bill Towe (posthumously), and CUCC's own Mac & Peg Hulslander. Please come to Forum and hear Cy King...and then remain for Worship and share in the recognition of the contributions of these recipients and honor Carolyn and Cy. We'll also celebrate with a special fellowship reception after worship sponsored by the Sunday School and the Social Justice Ministry. We hope to see you there!
Retirees’ Group
The Retirees’ Group will celebrate Valentine’s Day with their Annual Valentine’s Luncheon on Monday, February 10. Join them for a musical performance by our own talented Anne Moorman-Smith and a delicious lunch provided by the group. No need to brown bag it this month. 10:30am, Vaughan Fellowship Hall.
Economic Justice Task Force
EJTF will meet Tuesday, February 11, at 1:00pm in the Vaughan Fellowship Hall. Daniel Alexander, Triangle Area Field Director, will present information about the Jobs for Life program. Jobs for Life is a training program that gives people skills needed to succeed in the workforce. Everyone is invited to join us and to learn more about this resource. For more information on Jobs for Life, go to http://www.jobsforlife.org.
Life & Faith in Downtown Raleigh – February 11

Look for our red Life & Faith comma at the corner round table at Tyler’s Tap Room - 18 Seaboard Avenue, #150, Raleigh, NC. For more information, contact Jane Smith.
Parents' Night Out!
Saturday, February 15, 6:30pm - 9:30pm, the Youth will provide childcare, pizza, games, and crafts for CUCC children while parents enjoy a night out. Please RSVP and/or direct questions to Śānti Matthews at forsanti@aol.com.
West Raleigh Presbyterian Church Women’s Retreat
The Presbyterian Women at West Raleigh Presbyterian Church invite you to join WRPC Women at our annual retreat. We have lined up great presenters who will lead us in prayerful consideration of legal, educational, and spiritual issues relating to the thousands of farmworkers who perform the backbreaking labor required to provide us with our vegetables, fruits, Christmas trees and horticultural plants.
The retreat will take place on Saturday, February 15, from 8:30am -1:00pm, in the Fellowship Hall in the basement of West Raleigh Presbyterian Church, 27 Horne Street. A $15.00 fee is charged to cover materials, morning coffee and refreshments and a lunch catered by Ladyfingers Cafe. The deadline for Registration is February 12.
Contact the CUCC church office for a brochure containing further details and a registration form. For more information, please contact Frances Wilder, PW Moderator and Retreat Chair. Yours in Christ, Rosalyn Snyder.
