Church Women of the Southern Conference 2014 Women’s Summer Conference
Women of the Southern Conference are invited to the 2014 Women’s Summer Conference, June 19-21, at Black Lake Retreat Center, Asheboro, North Carolina. The theme of the conference this year is Treasure in Clay Vessels. For additional information and to register for the conference, go to www.soc-ucc.org. There are also registration forms on the table at the back of the Sanctuary. This year, the resource leaders are Reverend Cally Rogers-Witte and Dorothy Lester. Cally specifically asked that women of CUCC attend as she would love to see familiar faces at the conference. The deadline says May 22, but Nora Norred, Chairperson, assured us that there was still plenty of time to register. Contact Nora Norred at 336-859-0770 if you have any questions.
Caregiver Support Group
Are you a long term caregiver or know of someone who is and would like to participate in a support group? Sue Rogge is interested in starting a support group for caregivers. Sue is a licensed Clinical Social Worker and a previously ordained United Methodist minister. She supports her 87-year-old widowed mother who has moderate dementia and who lives in an independent living retirement complex. She has been an active member of caregivers support groups for over two years. If you would like to participate in a new support group, please contact Sue Cottle at muey1c@gmail.com or 919-772-8288.
Congregations for Social Justice Petition
Congregations for Social Justice invite you to join us in asking for a stronger Raleigh Housing Authority Board:
PETITION
TO: Raleigh Mayor, Nancy McFarlane, and the City Council
RE: Make the Raleigh Housing Authority Board Larger and More Diverse
At present, the Raleigh Housing Authority (RHA) Board has no members from areas of the City with concentrations of properties controlled by the RHA, and Board composition does not reflect the racial and socio-economic profile of Raleigh. The voices of those most affected by the decisions of the RHA Board are missing.
1. We ask that the number of Raleigh Housing Authority Board seats be increased from its current seven members to the historic nine members.
2. We further ask that the Mayor, in making appointments to the RHA Board, fill positions so that the Board more closely reflects the racial and socio-economic profile of Raleigh, especially those served by RHA.

The group organizes cross-country bicycle trips which benefit affordable housing groups such as Habitat for Humanity. For more information about the effort, pedal to http://bikeandbuild.org.
