Church Office Closed Tomorrow
The Church office will be closed tomorrow, Friday, July 11, 2014.  I will be visiting two of the grandbabies who live down in Leland, NC.  I will be checking email and phone messages throughout the day.  Have a great weekend!

Four-Week Summer Series Based on NOOMA Films
Joy Alford will be facilitating a short, 4-week, summer series beginning Thursday, July 17, 6:00pm.  We will meet at the church or in the homes of gracious and kind CUCC members.  The discussions will be based on NOOMA films.  NOOMA films are like parables. They are a series of short films, each about 10-15 minutes long that use the experiences of our lives to teach about the fullness of life through Jesus. The discussions will tackle issues like relationships, defining God, finding God, and living for God.  We will cover discipleship, which includes acts of justice, periods of silence and unconditional love. These meaningful discussions will spark relevant questions and biblical references for our exploration.  Rob Bell, a leading pastor and breakthrough communicator in the Christian community, is featured in our first series of NOOMAs. We will watch 1-3 of these short films to each session. No preparation needed except to bring a brown bag meal or snacks to share if you choose to do so. You may attend 1, 2, 3 or all 4 nights - July 17, July 24, July 31 and August 7.  If interested in attending this series or hosting one week, please contact the church office (919-787-6422; office.cucc@gmail.com) or Joy Alford (919-605-4336 or w.joy.alford43@gmail.com) as soon as possible.

Church Summer School Resumes this Sunday
Church Summer School will resume this Sunday. Church School will meet throughout the summer months! This summer, our theme is "Seek the Welfare of the City". We will find ways to be helpful to our city, and to reach out to our community beyond the walls of our church, "for in its welfare, we will find our own welfare." (Jeremiah 29:7)

Wednesday Evening Bible Study
Bring a brown bag supper and join us as we study and discuss the Bible (at times, the lectionary passages, at other times a particular book of the bible).  All are welcome to "just show up" and need not come to every session. There is no need to read anything in advance. People drop in and out as life dictates and the membership keeps changing.  Wednesday, July 16, 6:30pm, Pilgrim House.

PFLAG
Please join us Wednesday, July 16, at 7:30pm for our monthly support meeting.  All meetings are confidential and all are welcome! PFLAG is the United States' largest organization for parents, families, friends, and straight allies united with people who are lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT).  The mission of PFLAG Triangle is to:  Support Families and Friends – by working to foster loving relationships, by helping them understand and affirm their gay, lesbian, bisexual or transgendered loved ones; Educate Ourselves and the Public – by working with educators, faith groups, businesses, media, and the larger community; Advocate for Equality – by calling for equal human and civil rights.  We strive to create a world where our loved ones are judged on the content of their character, not by their sexual orientation or gender identity.  (ONA)

Godspell, Jr
Erin Moorman Wenger and North Raleigh School of Music are putting on Stephen Schwartz’s beloved musical Godspell, Jr. in the CUCC sanctuary on August 8th and 9th at 7:00pm.  It is free and open to everyone.  There will be singing, dancing, and a lot of clowning around.  Come and support the arts!

Pray at the Legislature
On Tuesdays from 12:30pm to 1:00pm, Duane Beck from the Mennonite Church meets with a group to pray and read scriptures.  Meet in the front door off of Jones Street. Turn left and meet at a table in the garden area.  Scriptures will be provided if requested.

Oak City Outreach Center Seeking Volunteers
The Oak City Outreach Center (near Moore Square) is looking for volunteer hosts to welcome groups who come to the Center to provide food and then to greet guests coming to the center to receive food or information and referrals. The Oak City Outreach Center is a collaboration of the City of Raleigh and the Raleigh Wake Partnership to End and Prevent Homelessness. The Center will be open on Saturdays and Sundays and needs volunteers willing to work four-hour shifts monthly or even quarterly. There will be a minimum of two adult volunteers at each time slot. Children accompanied by parents are also welcome to volunteer. For additional information, call 919-812-5546 or email oakcity.outreach@raldioc.org.
