Thinking big, digging deep, getting practical

How can CUCC think more creatively about using our spaces (indoor and outdoor) for ministry?

How can we move into the future with the best practices for how congregations organize themselves to support their members in ministry within and beyond the congregation?

What changes to our constitution and by-laws would better reflect how we do what we do now?

At the October 16 Council meeting, we delved deeper into these ongoing discussions, all of which were sparked by comments made by the congregation during the intentional interim process.  If you'd like to know more about what we're learning and considering, ask any council member.  (Of course, you will have opportunities to consult on any major changes.  We're still figuring out the questions and options.)

You can be part of implementing action we took on some of your requests.

We elected Frank Gailor, Joan McAllister, and Jim Smith to serve the October to October term of the CUCC/Prism Liaison Team.  This group connects CUCC's leaders and the congregation to our ministry in Wake Forest, Prism, and provides support to Prism's leader, Joy Alford Allridge.  Look for their periodic updates as Prism grows toward independent ministry and Joy seeks ordination.  Please keep Prism and Joy in your prayers.

We decided to ask the congregation to delegate authority to the Stewardship Ministry for selecting our 2018 delegate to the Southern Conference Annual Gathering.  Stewardship has been undertaking some careful thinking about how CUCC might better engage with the national UCC and the conference, spurred on by repeated requests at congregational meetings that we get clearer on how we decide how much to give the denomination through Our Church's Wider Mission (OCWM).  Also, the Nominating Committee reports to Stewardship Ministry; in future we imagine that they will be responsible for nominating a delegate for congregational approval.  This sets us up for a consistent process in the future and moves us closer to the desire of many that we develop a stronger relationship with the UCC.  You will be voting on this motion at the November 19 congregational meeting.
