Pastor's Letter

“The Autumn Equinox is a time of conscious selfhood, a time when we celebrate the building and strengthening of our inner life. In many cultures, the autumn time marks the beginning of a new year. The forces of nature are transiting with the autumnal equinox, as the relationship of light and darkness changes in the world around us.”    ~ Karen Rivers                                                                                                Dear CUCC Community, As the natural world continues its journey towards wholeness at the center of God’s peace when all things will be made new, we must listen to the inner landscape of our souls and begin our pilgrimages.   The birds of the air and the creatures that crawl and cl...

Life & Faith at Trophy Brewing (Morgan St.)

Whether this is your first time or you are a regular, drop in on the conversation at Life & Faith. October 2 Topic:   Each of us is on the power side of some "isms," and on the weak side of others.  How do we become a church which stands firmly with those on the weak side as they seek justice, and stands compassionately with those on the power side as they repent and choose actions of restitution?  And, more complicatedly, how do we become a place where those on both sides on any one "ism" find love, allyship, and hope?  This question is prompted by Pastor Jenny's sermon on Sep. 23 (the first shall be last, and the last shall be first - from Matthew 20). Drop in at Life & Faith on Tuesday, Oct. 2.  Look for Amanda Jost (our convenor) and the Life & Faith comma.  We're trying a new location this month :  Trophy Brewing + Pizza , 827 W. Morgan St. Raleigh, NC 27603.  (There are three Trophy locations; be sure you come to the one ...

Senior Adult Activities

CUCC Religious Education Ministry is offering quarterly opportunities for senior adults to gather together and explore cultural and educational events in our community. The first of these outings will be at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, October 11 . We’ll enjoy a guided tour through the  JC Raulston Arboretum ,  a nationally acclaimed garden with one of the largest and most diverse collections of landscape plants adapted for landscape use in the Southeast. We have a one hour guided tour scheduled, although it could go longer if there are a lot of questions. The arboretum has been improving their paths for years and the grounds are relatively eas y to walk.  All locations are readily visited by people with walkers and there's an abundance to see for those in wheelchairs. This event is free of charge. Other outings will include such venues as ·  a visit to an art exhibit ·  viewing a matinee film ·  attending a program at the Ci...
