VOTE!! Election Day is Tuesday, November 4
Election Day is Tuesday, November 4.  Please remember to vote if you have not already done so.  It’s so important to make our voices heard! Polls are open on Election Day from 6:30am until 7:30pm in North Carolina.  If you are standing in line at 7:30pm when the polls close, you will be allowed to vote.  You do not need an ID to vote this election; but will need to have one beginning 2016.  YOUR VOTE COUNTS!!!

Daylight Savings Time Ends This Sunday
Don't forget the set your clocks back one hour before you go to bed on Saturday night.  Daylight Savings Time ends this weekend.  If you forget, we'll just see you early for church this Sunday (maybe I can make it to Forum or Bible Study!).

A Message from the Stewardship Ministry
As we look around us, soaking up this glorious fall sunshine, we have much to be grateful for.   Please reflect on this as you consider making a generous pledge to the church for our operating budget next year.  The congregation is very active in many areas, spiritual, outreach, youth enrichment and beauty..........and all deserve support and leadership.  You will be hearing from members of our congregation during the next 3 weeks, discussing why they pledge and why this is significant to the life of the church.  The youth will join us in another great Poetry Slam/ Coffee House party on Saturday, November 15, to also help publicize our Stewardship efforts.  Definitely save that date!!
Your contributions will determine the strength of our next budget.  Please respond by mid-November...........either by mailing your pledge card to the office or placing it in the collection plate on Sunday.  The 2015 budget will be presented at the last Congregational meeting on November 23.  Please help make it a strong budget.
One last note...........if you would like to know the status of your current pledge contributions, please contact Carol Clark ( cdebclark@msn.com).

Forum – Sunday, November 2, 9:15am – “Climate Change Introduction”
What is climate? What is climate change?  What are greenhouse gases?
Carbon dioxide (CO2) - Where does it come from, why is it increasing, and why do we need to start reducing it now?
There are other greenhouse gases – What are CFCs, HFCs, etc.?
What we can do as individuals right now.
Presented by Justice in a Changing Climate members:  Karen Vollrath, David Smith, Gary Smith and Jane Smith.

Pray at the Legislature
Every Tuesday, from 12:30pm to 1:00pm, Duane Beck from the Mennonite Church meets with some of us. Go in the front door off of Jones Street. Turn left and meet at a table in the garden area.  Scriptures will be provided if requested. Contact Adrienne Little for additional information.

The annual fall congregational meeting is scheduled for November 23 at Noon in the Vaughan Fellowship Hall.  At this meeting, we will hear a preliminary report on development of the 2015 budget from the Stewardship Ministry, and a preliminary report from the Nominating Committee on next year’s officers and ministry members.

No Tuesday Evening Taizé Service in November
There will be no Tuesday Evening Taizé Service in November as Steve will be out-of-town.  Tuesday Evening Taizé will resume in December.

Putting Faith into Action: Clean Energy 101
Free Event! - November 6, 7:00pm - 8:30pm, Community UCC Sanctuary.
Are you wondering how you and your family can significantly lower your carbon footprints? Join us to learn about Clean Energy 101, presented by Clean Energy for Raleigh (CE4R), a partnership between the Clean Energy for Us program and the NC Sierra Club Capital Group. CE4R makes it easy and affordable for homeowners, businesses, and tax–exempt entities in Raleigh to go solar and invest in energy efficiency. They offer a free energy audit and discounted solar pricing for homeowners, businesses, nonprofits, schools, and worship centers who sign up before the November 14 deadline.
The workshop will feature presentations on solar energy, energy efficiency, financing, tax credits, and a 30 minute Q & A.  NC Interfaith Power & Light and several other environmental groups are sponsoring the Clean Energy 101 workshop.

All Church Workday – Saturday, November 8, 2014 – 9:00am-Noon
The grounds are looking a little shaggy, and it is time to clean up for the fall and holiday season!  Your Property Ministry appreciates your energy and skills to accomplish some inside and outside cleaning.  Window washing, raking, picking up pinecones and sticks, removing trash for pickup, and blowing the pine needles off the roof are among the many jobs that need to be done.  This is definitely a family activity; all ages and abilities are invited!  This is a great way to get to know the people who sit near you in church!
Please bring your gloves, favorite tools (marked with your name), old newspaper, and anything else you think of that might help attack that problem you have been noticing.  Many hands and hearts will make this a productive and FUN day.  The Property ministry will provide water, snacks, and coffee to fuel your work!!

Costume Poetry Slam with Cafe Style Coffee and Dessert
Save the Date!  November 15, 7:00pm, in the Vaughan Fellowship Hall. Once again, our NovemberFest Celebration will be a Poetry Slam/Coffee House Party.  More detail coming!  For questions or to volunteer to share a poem, contact Śānti Matthews at forsanti@aol.com.  Coffee and dessert will be served cafe style by our youth wait staff.
