The youth served 38 women at the Helen Wright Center on Sunday, December 17.
Everyone loved the chicken potpies, salad, oranges, and cookies that the youth decorated with love. It was a lovely evening! We shared a Christmas prayer, the youth sang We Wish you a Merry Christmas, and we made warm connections with each other.
The moods of everyone were lifted over the course of the meal. We may now have a new Advent tradition for our youth. Also, sweet Heather Burkhardt felt that the place needed a bit more TLC, and went out the next day and bought new table clothes and delivered them to the center.
We're grateful to the church for offering this opportunity to reach out and share this kind of miraculous experience.
The Helen Wright Center provides 24 emergency shelter beds for homeless women, with additional beds reserved for women in a program to help them transition from homelessness to stable housing. The Center is a program of Urban Ministries; CUCC members cook and serve the dinner meal on the third Sunday of each month. If you would like to volunteer to cook and/or serve part of the meal, contact Laura Lewis Upchurch (contact info in Breeze). CUCC donates to the programs of Urban Ministries through our budget.
