Marge Eckels
Marge Eckels is home from a recent hospital stay and is under Hospice care.  Her two daughters are taking care of her right now.  They ask that you please limit your calls and visits as they try to get everything arranged right now.  If you have any questions, please contact the church office at 919-787-6422 or Bill Lamb at 919-834-4280.

Food Bags
Food Bags are due Sunday, June 2.  Thank you for your continued support of this vital mission.  Marge Eckels served as our delivery person for many years.  Let’s see if we can make our goal of 30 bags this Sunday in honor of all she has done for this program.  Please include the following items in your food bags:
1 lb. grits                                2 cans tomatoes
1 lb. rice                                 2 cans applesauce
1 lb. dried beans                  2 1-qt pkgs. dry milk
1 can carrots                        2 macaroni/cheese
1 jar peanut butter               2 cans navy, pinto, or pork ’n beans

Church Workday
We will have a Church-wide workday on Saturday, June 1, from 9:00am – Noon.  Please come out and help us keep our church beautiful and inviting. If you have any questions, contact Nancy Stoddard at nancystoddard@gmail.com.

Robert Out of Town
Rev. Robert Parrish will be out of town from June 2 until June 8.  However, he can be reached at 1-800-662-7401 (ext. 227).  You can also reach him by cell at 919-616-1606. Otherwise, Joy Alford will assist you with any needs that you have.

Guest Preacher Sunday
We welcome Rev. Steve Hickle to our pulpit this coming Sunday morning.
A native of Iowa, Steve served United Methodist churches in North Carolina from 1975-2012, the last twenty-two years at Fairmont near NCSU. Over thirty years of volunteering with CROP walks, and over eleven years with Stop Hunger Now, Steve has developed a passion for the hungry.  His service on Stop Hunger Now's board of directors, including chairing it, has now extended to working full time as Faith Outreach Director.  He and his wife Peggy live in Raleigh in the Mordecai neighborhood.  Son Jesse, a music therapist, and his wife Sarah live in Indiana.

No Church School this Sunday
There will be no church school this Sunday, as it is the first Sunday of the month (Communion Sunday). WE ARE HAVING CHURCH SCHOOL THROUGH THE SUMMER! There has been some confusion about this, but we always meet through the summer months for church school. We also have several summer service projects and a pool party to look forward to.  Be sure to read your newsletter and weekly emails. This summer we will study world religions. If you have special knowledge or interest in helping with this, please contact Śānti Matthews at forsanti@aol.com or 919-961-8814.

ONA Task Force Meeting
We will have an ONA Task Force meeting Sunday, June 2, at Noon in the Hoffmann Room.  Please plan to attend as we plan for our September Forums, September Worship Service, and Pride!  All are welcome.

News from the CUCC Adult Forum
We have just finished a busy year of CUCC Adult Forum on May 26.  Forum will be on hiatus for the months of June, July, and August.  If a speaker of interest is in town or something pressing comes up, special meetings at the usual Forum time (Sunday mornings at 9:15am) may be organized. We will meet on June 2, at Noon, in the Bradow Room, to map out the schedule for Forum for the fall of 2013.  All are welcome. If you are not able to attend, but have topics or speakers you would like to schedule, contact Edith Sylla at esylla@bellsouth.net.

Breaking News from Adult Forum – Moral Mondays
There will be a meeting at Forum time (9:15am) on June 2 in the Vaughan Fellowship Hall to discuss participation in the Moral Monday, June 3. Please be there if you think you might be interested.

Taizé Service
As your week kicks into high gear, still your mind and wait in the presence of God.  The silence is punctuated by reading of scripture and chanting meditative songs.  No sermon, no offering, no announcements.  Friends are welcome.  Tuesday, June 4, VFH.

Graduation Celebration Sunday
Sunday, June 9, is our Graduation Celebration. Come and join us as we celebrate our High School and College Graduates.  Please contact Śānti Matthews at 919-961-8814 or Joy Alford at 919-605-4336 if you have a graduate that you would like to have recognized.

Fun at the Lion’s Park playground & cookout
The next Resources & Rituals for Teaching Faith at Home family potluck will be at Fawn, Grady, Ruth Ann and Bronwen’s house, 211 Dennis Avenue, Raleigh, on Sunday, June 23, 4:30-6:30pm.  We’ll cookout in the Pattison/McCallie backyard, and then head to Lion’s Park to enjoy the playground.  Fawn & Grady are providing chicken & veggie burgers for the grill (you can bring a different protein if you prefer).  Bring a side dish to share.  Families with children 5th grade or younger are welcome to come.  Please RSVP to Fawn or Grady so they know how much chicken/veggie burger to prepare at 919-828-9595, fawnpea@gmail.com or grady@ncconservationnetwork.org.  If it rains, we'll hold the event at CUCC.

Mission 4/1 Earth
"Mission 4/1 Earth: 50 Great Days" - boldly living Jesus' let-your-light-shine proclamation in the Sermon on the Mount: “That they may see your good works!”  It provided us an opportunity to live out our faith — in unity, as one church — for the sake of our fragile planet Earth.  Here are the totals from CUCC as of 5/22/2013:
Hours:  2172
Trees:  11
Advocacy contacts:  190
Households involved:  33
Thank you all who participated.  Let’s continue our good work for the sake of our planet.
