February Topic: We're continuing our theme pondering how to respond when people (including ourselves) say or do things which we believe are hateful, intimidating, or destructive. As you read the questions below, consider them from the perspective of personal intimidation (bullies) and group intimidation (hate speech). Here are some questions for February.
- What is your standard for speech and action? Do you hold yourself to a different standard than you do others?
- How is blowing off steam different from being a bully/hate speech? How is righteous or prophetic speech/action different from being a bully/hate speech?
- In what situations do you find yourself being a bully/hate speech? Are there any habits you are trying to break?
- Do you have friends or family members who share your viewpoint who bully/hate speak? What do you do when they speak or act that way? What do you wish you would do? How about friends or family members who do not share you viewpoint who bully/hate speak? What do you do or wish you would do?
As always, the goal is to support one another individually, not to set up some kind of group morality or practice.
