JANUARY FORUMS: 9:30-10:15AM, Vaughan Fellowship Hall
Sunday, January 14
The CUCC Sanctuary Task Force invites you to a forum next Sunday at 9:30 a.m. in the Vaughan Fellowship Hall. The task force that formed last fall is excited to invite you to this adult educational opportunity that will provide the following:
• An introduction to the UCC Resolution Statement of Support for Undocumented Immigrants
• An explanation of how area UCC churches & other churches are actively providing advocacy, information and/or aid, including physical refuge for 4 of the estimated 350,000 NC immigrants at risk of deportation.
• A discussion of some of the “sticking points” concerning why immigrants come to the U.S. & want to stay “illegally”, & why they don’t just go home when threatened with deportation.
• Information about legal issues facing congregations who provide physical sanctuary
• A visit from an Umstead Park UCC congregant, Gary Sanders, who has been one of the coordinators for provision of protective sanctuary for Eliseo Jimenez since October 2017.
Sunday, January 21
Religious Education Ministry invites you to a forum on January 21 at 9:30 a.m. in the Vaughan Fellowship Hall led by Michael Bowen (former CUCC youth). Michael is currently a sophomore in engineering at North Carolina State University. He spends much of his time researching new semiconductors to make solar panels more affordable and more efficient. Come honor his hard work, and learn about his important research and efforts to care for the earth and to improve our world.
