Dear CUCC Friends and Family,
It is with deep concern and care for you, and for our Nicaraguan neighbors and family that I write:
Many of you are aware of the situation in Nicaragua where social and political unrest brought peaceful demonstrators to the streets this week, and as we know all too well in our own country— the scene quickly turned violent and the casualties began to grow. Loss of life, a growing sense of instability and rage among citizens, and the increased sense of division between a government and it’s people bring a tumultuous, and unpredictable experience to every day life.
Though, these unfortunate events have lead our CUCC International Mission Trip Leadership Team to alter their travel plans, it is “such a time as this” that we give thanks to God for calling us into a deeper relationship with our Nicaraguan brothers and sisters. We give thanks for our sister and beloved friend, Maria Mayorga and her family who have helped us to deepen our understanding and broaden our love for God’s beautiful people in Nicaragua. We give thanks for our courageous and committed youth and Nicaraguan Mission Team who have been praying for and with Nicaragua for the last 3 months.
It is such a time as this that The Apostle Paul calls us to “Rejoice with those who rejoice, and to mourn with those who mourn.” - Romans 12:15
Thus, you are invited to join us this Thursday evening for a Prayer Vigil at 6:30pm in the CUCC Sanctuary to hold one another, and our neighbors in God’s pure and present healing love, a love that knows no bounds.
Spirit is leading the way,
Rev. Jenny Shultz-Thomas
