One cup of coffee a week
In order to continue CUCC's industrial composting project, we need eleven people to donate $10/month or $120. Basically,
one cup of coffee a week.
Why does it matter?
Since we began composting fellowship scraps & plates last July, we have kept 2200 pounds of food waste out of the landfill and made 550 pounds of compost to improve the soil of farmers. Good news all by itself.
But there's more...
By keeping that food waste out of the landfill, we've prevented 250 pounds of methane from the atmosphere. Because methane is a much, much stronger greenhouse gas than carbon dioxide (25 to 100 times stronger), that is the same as 7000 pounds of CO2 equivalents that are sequestered in the soil instead of causing our climate to change.
Lots of numbers, but what does that mean?
So far, we have kept as many CO2 equivalents out of the atmosphere in 8 months of composting as we do in 6 months of our solar array!
In other words, if we increase our composting at CUCC, we can do as much good composting as we do with the solar array!
To donate a $120 share to CUCC's composting project, stop at the composting table after worship March 10, 17, or 24. You can donate by cash, check, credit card, or automatic bill pay. Thank you.

PS Learn the rules for bringing your food waste from home to CUCC's compost bin at the March 17 Compost and Reuse Action Event.
