Lenten Pastoral Reflection and Holy Week Information

Dear Beloved CUCC Community,

We have begun a beautiful journey together, one filled with all the exuberance of new relationships, of seeking what may be found in the light and love that exists within the spiritual life together. As your Pastor, I am continually humbled and filled to overflowing that the Spirit has found it pleasing that we might journey together. Praise be to God!

As we are inextricably bound together, belonging one to another, we are called both to an individual piety that might render our hearts full and prepared for a life of service and compassion, as well as to a communal discernment—one that leads us down this Lenten road together, walking in the footsteps of one with whom we can both fully identify and to whose life and love we can only HOPE to emulate.

Whether for you, the holy life is marked by the ancient traditions of the Church, or the natural liturgy of time as the seasons come and go, walking the Via Dolorosa is an invitation for us to  prayerfully consider what it might mean to live as “resurrection people”. As we follow Jesus on this Holy Week journey, let us listen for all the ways in which the Spirit reminds us that in dying we are made alive, and that in Living death has no power over us.  “Spirit of The Way, guide our steps into living, that we might not fear dying.”

May the Spirit lead the way,
Rev. Jenny Shultz-Thomas

You are invited to the Journey of Holy Week at CUCC

Saturday, April 8 -  Lenten Walking Meditation with Sam and Joanna Woodrum
This walking meditation creates an opportunity to encounter God through each of the senses, as well as the chance to reflect on the metaphor of a walk in the woods.

Directions: From the NC Museum of Art take Reedy Creek Rd Northwest for exactly 1 mile (.3 miles past Edward Mill Rd.) and take a left on an unmarked dirt road.  Drive 100 yards and park on the right side of the road.  We will meet at the gate on the right.
Description: This will be a semi-guided walking mediation, and involve 1.5 miles of moderate hiking.  Those that prefer less walking will have the option to join the group for the first and last 1/4 mile of the walk and sit in the covered picnic area in between.
Facilities are rustic.  Bring water and comfortable clothes.  There is a port-a-potty near the picnic area but no running water.
Contact Sam at sjwoodrum@gmail.com if you have any questions.

Sunday, April 9 - Palm Sunday: Blessing of then Palms and Flowering Cross.
