We recently learned a refuge family from Afghanistan needs financial support for rent and utilities due to an unfortunate and untimely illness of the mother.
The family includes a mother and five daughters aged 7 to 17. They left Afghanistan in 2001 and lived in Pakistan for 15 years before coming to the US with the help of Lutheran Services. The mother and oldest daughter have been working at various jobs since they arrived, so they can be financially independent.
The oldest daughter works part-time to support the family while going to high school. All of the girls are very good students, and the older ones are taking AP and Honors classes with dreams of going to college. Unfortunately, the company where the mother worked shut down in June, and in August an illness required her to have surgery. This has significantly impacted her ability to find a new job.
This is a strong and motivated family working to excel in the face of adversity. To help them bridge the gap during this hardship, we have set a goal of raising $2,000 to cover rent and utilities for two months.
If you, your family and friends can assist this family, please make your donation to CUCC and in the memo line of your check note Afghanistan Family. CUCC continues to support our family of refugees and this request will not impact their support.
On behalf of this family and their mentor Iwona Birk, thank you! - Submitted by Lena Gallitano
