Moral Monday Ad Hoc Group Meets this Sunday, May 18
Don’t know much about Moral Monday? Come to our Moral Monday Ad Hoc Meeting this Sunday, May 18, 8:30am, in the Hoffmann Room, and learn about this movement.  Already committed to Moral Monday?  (The meeting will be over in time for Forum.) Come and join us as we plan for the upcoming Moral Monday on Monday, May 19.   We’ll join others at Bicentennial Mall – in front of the General Assembly, 16 West Jones St, Raleigh, NC, on Monday, May 19, 5:00pm.  Bring a placard or sign with a message you would like to convey to our legislators!  Also, please bring a small loaf of bread or pita to partake in our planned Love Feast:  As a sign of our moral conviction that we have more than enough for everyone's need (even if not for everyone's greed), we will break bread together in the People's House. Any lawmakers who will commit to repealing last year's attacks on North Carolina's most vulnerable are invited to join us as a public sign of their commitment.  Let us break bread together, marching on!  If you can’t make the meeting but would like additional information, contact Joan McAllister or any of the other CUCC folks who have participated.  (Ad Hoc Moral Monday Group)

LIGHT! Dazzling images of light explode throughout the Bible --- as God creates the heavens and the earth, when angels appear, when God calls us out of darkness and as Jesus breaks into the New Dawn.
May 18 through July 20, "Let There Be Light" will shine on the walls of the Voice of the Spirit Gallery at West Raleigh Presbyterian Church, 27 Horne Street, Raleigh, NC. This is a multi-church 2D-3D art show. The show opens May 18 at 5:45 pm, following a musical program presented by West Raleigh’s choir and other musicians. Three of our CUCC artists are exhibiting works: Linda Baker, Ted Gregory and Judy Smallwood.  Come and support our artists.

It’s time once again for Durham Bulls Baseball.  This year’s outing will take place on Friday, June 6.  Come cheer on the Bulls in the newly renovated Durham Bulls Athletic Park as they take on the Pawtucket Red Sox.
Please sign up for the game through the church office, 919-787-6422, by Wednesday May 28 as tickets are going fast. Tickets for the game are $14.99 per person and include a $5.00 coupon toward concessions. If you wish to attend the game, please write a check for the appropriate amount and place it in the offering plate or send it to the church office.  Be sure to write Durham Bulls in the memo pad so that the church can properly be reimbursed.  For those interested in carpooling, we’ll meet at the church on Friday, June 6 (time to be determined) and carpool to Durham Bulls Athletic Park in time for the 7:00pm start. I look forward to seeing you on Friday, June 6 as we cheer on the 2013 International League champions Durham Bulls.  Submitted by Robert Parrish

Safety tip:  Battery & Light Bulb Recycling at CUCC
Please help us keep CUCC safe.  When you have batteries or florescent bulbs to recycle, please hand them directly to Jane or Gary Smith.  Do NOT leave them on the shelf in the Vaughan Fellowship Hall.  Batteries jumbled together (especially the rectangular 9-volt) can arc, creating a spark that might start a fire. (We know this from family experience.) Florescent bulbs contain mercury that, if broken, become a toxic gas.  When you hand them to us, we can make sure they leave the building safely.  For storage of your batteries (new or used) at your home, keep them in the original packaging or put electrical tape over the terminals of the 9-volt batteries. For more information, when you have the chance, check out this video:  http://youtu.be/OSJH21WmALc.  Submitted by Jane and Gary Smith
