Report on May 4 Congregational Meeting

The congregation of Community UCC held its annual spring meeting on May 4. Actions taken at the meeting included the following ...

  • Approval (after minor additions and corrections) of the minutes for the November 10, January 12, and March 16 congregational meetings.
  • Passage of a technical proposed introduced by Frank Gailor to expedite the closing on purchase of the Lloyd property on May 9. The corporation referred to in the motion is a non-profit corporation that has been set up to manage the property on behalf of the church. Here is the text of the motion passed today.

    Motion: That Carol Kepler as Church Treasurer be authorized and directed to execute all such loan documents as may be necessary to complete the purchase of the Lloyd Property by the Community Church Low-Income Housing Corporation, Inc., a NC non-profit corporation, formed to enable the church to take advantage of a property tax exemption available to that entity but not the church.

    That Carol Clark, Lavon Page, or Frank Gailor be authorized and directed to attest to the Carol Kepler’s signature in connection with the foregoing loan documents.

    That the foregoing persons be authorized and directed to undertake any such other such actions or undertaking as may be necessary or proper in furtherance of the purchase of the Lloyd Property.

    That the Church Council be authorized and directed to appoint members to the board of directors of the foregoing non-profit corporation and take such further action as undertaking to constitute the board of directors of such corporation.

  • Passage of a motion introduced by Grady McCallie on behalf of the Justice in a Changing Climate Task Force to permit placing of anti-fracking signs on church property.
  • Passage of a proposal from Mac Hulslander backed by the Social Justice Ministry which calls on the Southern Conference to pass a resolution on fracking at its annual meeting. The resolution referred to is a resolution that Mac is currently working on and which has the approval of the Social Justice Ministry.
