Each of us has chosen to leave loved ones to go somewhere else: to college, a new job, married life in a new town, retiring closer to children. Each of us has been left by people who have made those choices. We take the facts and what we know about our loved ones, and look for patterns in our lives to create a story. That story informs how we will act going forward and how we remember the relationship. Sometimes those stories are filled with love, and sometimes they are empty, broken stories.
