A Prayer for Labor Day

On this Labor Day, let our prayers surround those who
are struggling on the economic margins.

We pray for workers
    who do not have jobs
whose inadequate pay does not allow them to live the full life intended for them.
who are not valued and respected by their employers,
who clean houses but cannot afford to buy them,
who grow food but cannot eat their fill,
who serve and care for others but are not served and cared for themselves,
who are unjustly employed, working hard and yet living in poverty,
who are working in the shadow of a broken and unjust immigration system

We pray for our elected leaders that they will place workers
on the margins in the center of their deliberations.

Help us to see our own complicity in systems that sustain some of us but forsake others,
And help us to create a faithful economy where everyone has enough and all people live lives of dignity.
